3 Ways for Mr. Gates to Grow Younger: And Be Like a Carmelite

What is it you want? Right now? Well, depends on where you are, who you’re with, what time it is. It all depends. But here’s something you and I want: eternal youth!

Funny, even Mr. Gates wants it too. God made Him with that desire to have ‘life and have it to the full.’ But you can’t give him it, and I can’t give him it.

Yes, you want to grow younger – or at least stay eternally fit and strong, full of life, able to go where you go and do what you do. Reasonable enough? Well, it ain’t gonna happen. And it’s not reasonable! Think how mad the world would be if I could not die. What a horrible thought.

What 3 Things Can Mr. Gates Do?

Here’s the context. Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange teaches that for the saints ‘there is no twilight; only the body weakens with age.’ He means – they run faster as they get closer to Heaven. They grow younger in spirit. Not in body. But in charity. They love God  – more intensely. They love their neighbours for the love of God – more intensely. And they love themselves for the love of God – more intensely.

So what must dear Mr. Gates do to avoid the twilight – the encircling gloom of death? Growing old without hope? Pretty simple: live a life of passive purifications. Pretty simple: live a life of passive purifications. He has to:

  • Pray
  • Gain Merit
  • Receive the Sacraments worthily

The Carmelites – especially St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila (HAPPY FEAST DAY!) know about these. Every pilgrim on the road to Heaven needs to live a life of mortification. Simple, little, unseen acts of charity using these 3 steps.

Can He Do them Alone?

This is a trick question. Yes, he can do these acts of charity when he is alone. But, he cannot do them from his own resources. He can only do them by God’s grace.

Can you convert yourself by yourself? No. Can you do any good from your own self – absolutely speaking? No. You need God, and I need God. And Mr. Gates needs God. He doesn’t need all that money. He needs sanctifying grace in his soul. That’s why God permits him to have all that money. It’s so he an become poor in spirit. If he doesn’t he’ll die as an enemy of God.

Heres hoping God leads him into union with Himself.
